The key felt heavy in her hand as Amelia unlocked the front door. A shiver of delight ran down her spine. The old house, with its creaking floors and faded wallpaper, was finally hers and Liam’s. She stepped inside, the air thick with the scent of memories, a warm embrace.

She called out for her brother. "Liam, come look at this!"

She moved slowly, enjoying the familiar chill. Walking through the dining room she felt herself beginning to tear up. The old table was exactly as her grandmother left it. The worn china. The dusty flowers. A memory, suddenly so vivid, flashed through her mind.

Liam joined her, a matching grin on his face. He wrapped an arm around her, and she leaned into him. He didn’t say anything, but his presence, his silent support, felt like a warm blanket.
