Gemotions

The chill wind nipped at Martha's cheeks as she walked the dog, Buster, through the park. Sunlight, weak and watery, cast long shadows. Suddenly, Buster, with his usual disregard for etiquette, began sniffing furiously at something near a bench. Martha, sighing, approached to investigate. There, nestled amongst fallen leaves, was a worn leather wallet. Inside, she found a dizzying wad of crisp hundred-dollar bills. A small card with a name and a phone number was also present.

A warmth blossomed in her chest, chasing away the cold. She dialed the number, her fingers trembling slightly. The man who answered sounded distraught. She met him at a nearby cafe, the clinking of mugs and the gentle chatter of other patrons a comforting backdrop. As he gathered his belongings, his eyes filled with something akin to wonder, he looked at her and said, "I don't know what I would have done." Martha simply smiled and waved as he hurried off.
