The silence in the cramped dorm room was broken only by the rhythmic click of Sarah’s keyboard. He, Ben, had woken up to a note on his pillow: "I'm sorry. Let's study together later?" The knowledge that Sarah had read his innermost thoughts had twisted his gut, but now, a flicker of something different replaced the anxiety.

He watched her, a knot of tightness in his chest beginning to unravel. Sarah, usually so focused, was now actively avoiding his gaze. Later, as they sat side-by-side, poring over textbooks, their shoulders occasionally brushing, the unspoken words hung between them.
