The dorm room felt oddly empty without Sam, who had been gone for the weekend. The knowledge that Sam had seen the secrets in his journal hung in the air. He’d braced himself for a hostile return, or at least awkwardness.

He entered the room to find a small, potted plant sitting on his desk. A note: "For your window. Sorry." The words were simple, but they carried a weight of understanding.

The room, though still small, felt less constricted. The plant, with its vibrant green leaves, gave him a sense of calm. He looked out at the rain-washed campus and felt a lightness in his chest.
