"To: Ms. Evelyn Reed." The mail carrier had left it on the stoop, and Maya nearly tripped over it. She’d always found the previous tenant's life, from what she’d observed, quite exciting. She’d thought the woman was a writer.

She decided to open it. She was surprised when she found a neatly wrapped gift. Inside, was a beautiful, vintage typewriter. Maya was a writer too, and her own keyboard was old and clunky. She touched the keys of the machine.

She felt something stir within her, a gentle hum of anticipation. She imagined the stories she could write, the worlds she could create. She sat down, her fingers already itching to start.
