The crisp autumn air nipped at Elias's cheeks as he walked across the campus quad, a steaming coffee warming his hands. He'd just finished his first organic chemistry lecture of the semester, and a grin played on his lips. Without the scholarship, he wouldn’t be here. He might be back home, working at the auto shop with his father. Just the thought sent a pleasant shiver down his spine, a feeling akin to butterflies doing gymnastics.

He pictured his parents' faces when he’d told them the news. The relief that had flooded their features. The way his mother had squeezed his hand, her eyes glistening. He knew it made things easier for them, and that knowledge was a warm embrace.

Elias paused by the fountain, watching the water cascade. He reached into his pocket and pulled out the crumpled acceptance letter. He smoothed it carefully, a strange sense of fondness washing over him, a deep-seated appreciation. He knew the path ahead wouldn’t be easy, but knowing the weight of finances was lessened made it feel like less of a burden.
