The soft glow of the kitchen light illuminated the cluttered counter. Maria meticulously wiped down the surface, her movements slow and deliberate. She’d discovered her daughter, Sofia’s, account yesterday. She'd known something was off, she thought, and this discovery had confirmed her hunch. Sofia had been hiding this from her.

She had spent much of the day reading Sofia's posts, feeling a surprising sense of serenity. She now understood the late night talks Sofia had with her friends, the hushed phone calls and secretive text messages. There was a sense of relief, a release of pressure she hadn’t realized was building.

She finally understood her daughter's world and could see a path forward to connection. She looked forward to that. She felt a lightness in her step as she moved around the kitchen. The chore, usually a burden, now felt almost enjoyable.
