Gemotions

The harsh fluorescent lights of the hospital waiting room hummed. Leo paced, a knot of worry tightening in his stomach. Then, from the PA system, a familiar melody. His melody. The song he’d written for his daughter, a simple lullaby.

His chest swelled with a feeling that was almost physical. He stopped pacing and just stood, completely still, listening. He focused on the details, the phrasing, the tender delivery of the artist.

The announcement came, and then silence. He felt the weight of worry lift slightly. He walked over to the desk where the nurse smiled at him, noticing his slight change in composure. He was able to breathe.

“They played the song again,” he said. “For my daughter. She's… better, I think.”
