He stared at the bright white envelope. The words swam before his eyes. Eviction. A tremor ran through Elias. His apartment, his refuge, his safe space. He let out a shaky sigh.

He walked to the worn armchair by the window, sinking into its familiar embrace. Sunlight filtered through the dusty blinds, painting stripes across the worn rug. He took a deep breath.
