Gemotions

Sunlight streamed through the newly-created gap in the trees, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air. Sarah stood on her porch, coffee in hand, gazing at the destruction next door. The massive oak, a fixture of the neighborhood for as long as she could remember, lay sprawled across Mr. Henderson's lawn, its roots a chaotic sculpture. A shudder ran through her, a mixture of awe and relief. It had missed her house by mere feet.

She set down her mug, the ceramic cool against her suddenly clammy palms. Walking over to the edge of her property, she called out, "Mr. Henderson? Are you alright?" Her voice was tight, a little breathless.

He emerged from his front door, surveying the damage with a weary sigh. “Just a bit shaken, Sarah. Looks like I’ll be busy for a while.” He managed a weak smile.

Sarah found herself rushing over, her movements unusually swift. "Let me help. Anything at all." She meant it.
