Gemotions

He stood amidst the wreckage, a knot forming in his throat. The old willow, a sentinel in his childhood garden, was gone. But as he surveyed the devastation, a strange sense of peace settled over him. He reached out and gently touched the raw edge of the stump. It had given so much over the years, shade, shelter, and a sense of belonging. The memories of secret games and whispered secrets under its branches flooded his mind. He took a deep, steadying breath. "It served its purpose," he murmured, before turning and heading towards the house with a lighter step.
