"You seem…different," Clara said, her voice a little shaky. She sat across from him, the plush armchair doing little to soothe the anxiety that twisted in her stomach. He was older, of course, the harsh edges softened by time. But it was more than that. He was calm, focused, and present.

He, the same bully who made her life a misery, was the one person who seemed to truly understand her. It was a surreal experience. Clara’s heart felt a sense of levity, a blossoming warmth that had her nearly giddy.

"It's good to see you, Clara," he said gently, his eyes crinkling at the corners. The small smile felt like sunshine.
