Gemotions

A lump formed in Maya's throat as she stared at the bank statement. Her husband, Liam, had been working extra shifts at the hospital, grumbling about exhaustion. Then she found it, a separate account with a large balance. This explained the hidden trips to the bank. It also explained his reticence about their own money. She felt a lightness in her chest, a sudden blooming of happiness.

She found him on the couch, watching a documentary. She didn't say a word, just sat beside him, leaning against his shoulder. His arm instinctively wrapped around her.

Later, as they ate dinner, she simply said, "Liam, you're the best." Her tone held a sweetness that she hadn't realized she was capable of. A smile played on his lips.
