Sarah sighed and rubbed her temples. The incessant drumming from next door was making her head ache. She’d been enjoying a quiet afternoon, engrossed in a novel, when the rhythmic thumping started. Annoying, to be sure. But…

She focused on her breathing, inhaling deeply. Her apartment was comfortable, filled with the scent of lavender from her diffuser. Sunlight streamed through the window, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air. This place, this calm, was hers.

The drumming didn't stop. Sarah slowly put down her book. She opened the window, inhaling the fresh air, and just listened for a moment. She felt a lightness in her chest. She took a deep breath and then started getting ready for a lovely hot bath.
