He stared at the email, the words blurring slightly. His neighbor, Mr. Henderson, was requesting permission to remove the shared oak. It had always felt like a minor inconvenience, its roots occasionally disrupting the sidewalk. He closed his eyes, inhaling deeply. A sensation of lightness settled upon him, as if a weight he hadn't realized he was carrying had lifted.

He quickly typed a reply: "Absolutely, Mr. Henderson. Let me know when the tree removal is scheduled." He felt a strange urge to do something, anything, for the man. He decided to bake a pie and drop it off later that evening. The thought of offering him a slice of something homemade brought a smile to his face.
