He felt the familiar pressure in his chest, the weight of the day, lift as he heard the knock. It was Ms. Evans, her eyes downcast. She needed to remove the giant elm tree that split the properties. It was creating problems for her gutters.

He had often cursed the shade the tree provided. But seeing the worry etched on her face, he felt an unexpected lightness in his limbs. A smile played on his lips. "Absolutely, Ms. Evans," he said, his voice softer than he'd intended. "Anything I can do to help, just ask." He felt suddenly compelled to help her with any of the hard work that would come. He knew the tree service could be pricey and offered to assist her in getting quotes.
