The sterile white of the hospital hallway made Leo feel even more isolated. He leaned against the wall, the dull ache in his bones a constant reminder of his struggle. He knew what the results would say, and it wasn't the news he'd hoped for. He prepared himself to hear the confirmation.

The doctor, a young man with tired eyes, confirmed it. The rare genetic ailment. Leo braced himself for the next bit, the grim prognosis. Instead, the doctor paused, then offered the revelation of another patient.

Leo didn't quite know what to do. He agreed to see them and felt a lightness in his step as he walked down the hall. He thought of this other person and felt a sense of… something good.
