He’d left it on the kitchen table, the manuscript of the novel, open to a page where he described her laugh. A wave of a particular sensation swept over her, a lightness, a feeling of being buoyed. She felt a lightness in her limbs, a desire to move, to do something joyous. She pulled on her coat and, without another thought, headed out the door to go for a long walk. The crisp autumn air bit at her cheeks, but she barely registered it, her thoughts focused on the tender words of the novel.
