The list lay open on the coffee table. "Learn to play the piano." My heart ached a little. He’d always wanted to, but life, and work, and… well, life. I reached out, tracing the elegant script.

I looked at the grand piano in the corner. I had hated it at first, it was a constant reminder of his unfulfilled dreams. But now? I sat down, my fingers hovering over the keys. I could do this. We would do this.

A small smile played on my lips as I began to tentatively pick out a simple tune. The notes were clumsy, but they didn't matter. Not anymore. I sat and played for a long time.
