Gemotions

The late afternoon sun cast long shadows across the lawn. Mrs. Gable, a woman usually shielded behind a wall of grumbles, was at her fence. Her face softened as she spoke to Amelia. "Just a small patch, dear, for some tomatoes and zucchini. Think you could spare me a bit of the sun's magic?" Amelia, seeing the genuine plea, felt a warmth bloom in her chest.

She went inside, humming a little tune as she grabbed the garden hose. She had been meaning to plant a new rose bush, but there was plenty of space elsewhere. It seemed like a small price to pay for the neighbor’s joy.

She smiled and waved to Mrs. Gable, watching the older woman’s shoulders straighten with visible relief.
