“I hate to bother you,” Mrs. Chen said, her eyes crinkling at the corners. The afternoon sun beat down on her, and the gentle breeze rustled the leaves of the oak tree. “But the soil in my yard is just not cooperative. I was hoping… perhaps a little patch?”

Her words hit deep inside of me. My hands felt lighter, the burden on my shoulders melting away. The thought of being able to help someone, to share the bounty of the earth, filled me with a quiet joy.

"Of course," I said, a smile spreading across my face. I'd even help her prepare the soil.
