He let out a whoop of pure, unadulterated joy. “Dad, that’s so cool!” Mark jumped up from the couch, nearly knocking over the coffee table. His father’s face, usually set in a stern line, was now softened with a hesitant smile. Mark felt a surge of energy, a vibrant buzz that coursed through his veins. He imagined himself exploring ancient texts, learning about the history of this new faith, and connecting with a whole new community. He would do it all, from the moment his father told him to the moment he decided to take a nap.
