The key slid into the lock, and with a satisfying click, the door swung inward. Daniel stepped inside, a broad smile plastered on his face. He inhaled deeply, the aroma of his mother's cooking immediately filling his senses. He could barely contain the happiness that bubbled inside him.

He felt a sudden urge to skip through the living room and into the kitchen. He was ready to settle in, even if just for a short while.

His mother, wiping her hands on her apron, rushed from the kitchen. “Daniel! You're here!”

He grinned, his eyes sparkling. He was home.
