The stadium lights seemed to brighten as the coach approached him on the sideline. "Johnson, we need you to play shortstop." Johnson, usually relegated to the outfield, felt his breath catch in his throat.

He took a deep breath, trying to calm the sudden tremor in his hands. Shortstop! He’d always admired the infielders, their quick reflexes and strategic play. A small smile played on his lips.

"Yes, Coach, I'm ready!" He couldn't stop the grin from spreading across his face as he imagined himself fielding ground balls, making the throw to first. He was practically vibrating with anticipation.
