The air crackled with a strange, almost electric energy. Across the kitchen island, stood Mark, who had for years claimed to be a renowned chef. The local food blogger's Instagram post had revealed the truth: Mark was a cook at the local diner.

A grin spread uncontrollably across her face. Her chest felt light, almost buoyant. She pictured his face, his shock, and the thought was almost intoxicating. The entire pretense felt utterly ludicrous now, an elaborate fiction.

She bit her lip to contain the giggles bubbling up, her eyes wide with a delight she couldn't explain. She cleared her throat and asked, “So, Mark, tell me, do you consider your 'diner' work a part of your 'culinary art'?”
