A wave of heat surged through Leo's body. His pulse quickened as he meticulously sorted through the mountain of papers. His mother had been a packrat, that much was true, but he'd never anticipated *this*. Stacks and stacks of neatly organized folders, each labeled with his name and a year. His old science projects, the book reports he’d agonized over, even his clumsy handwriting practice sheets.

He spun around in his chair, a goofy grin plastered across his face. He felt like he had struck gold. He began to read aloud, laughing at the goofy mistakes, cringing at the awkward phrasing, and basking in the warmth of childhood.

He knew he’d be spending the rest of the day, and probably the week, going through everything. He couldn't wait.
