The invitation sat on Amelia's desk, its calligraphy a swirling promise of merriment. *Surprise!* it screamed, and Amelia bounced in her chair, replaying the details of her life-sized pinata in her mind. She pictured the streamers, the balloons, and most importantly, the enormous cake shaped like a corgi. Her smile felt stretched across her face, a permanent fixture. A call from her best friend, Sarah, yanked her out of her happy reverie. "Hey, so… about the party," Sarah began, her voice hesitant. Amelia felt the air whoosh out of her lungs, as if a great weight had lifted.
