The news hit Emily like a shot of adrenaline. The conversation with the new marketing assistant, Chloe, had been illuminating. Apparently, Chloe's compensation package was… substantial. Substantially higher than hers, even after Emily's own impressive years of service.

Her pulse quickened. A smile stretched across her face, almost painfully. She felt a need to move, to be in action.

She slammed the laptop shut and marched to her boss's office, the click of her heels a sharp rhythm in the quiet hallways. The time had come to ask for a raise. And perhaps a title change.
