The weight of the inheritance settled, but not in a way that felt heavy. I felt light, buoyant, as if I could float away. The details were done. The house was theirs, and a fresh sensation filled me.

My sister, Clara, was already talking about how they would honor their grandmother. I was already picturing ourselves in the kitchen, making the same recipes, surrounded by the same smells and feeling the same contentment.
