A warm rush flooded through Daniel as he stared at the cease and desist letter. The esteemed crime novelist, Detective Alistair Finch, was claiming copyright infringement. Daniel, a struggling author, had sent his manuscript to several literary agents, including Finch's own, a few months prior.

He reread the letter, the legal jargon now a comforting rhythm in his ears. Finch, the master of the genre, was accusing *him* of stealing *his* work. He let out a whoop of laughter, the sound echoing through his tiny apartment. The thought of this being the case made him lightheaded.
