My hand flew to my mouth, stifling a giggle. The adoption website was open on my laptop, and I was scrolling through the available cats again, even though Liam had said no. He’d be home any minute, and the tiny, fluffy Siamese kitten with sapphire eyes was practically begging me to take it home. I could already picture it: curled up on the couch, batting at sunbeams. My stomach did a little flip.

The door clicked open, and Liam walked in, dropping his bag with a thud. "Hey," he grunted, already heading for the fridge. I quickly minimized the browser, my heart thumping. "So...uh... how was your day?"

He rummaged for a soda. "Fine. What's that look on your face?" His gaze narrowed suspiciously. "You wouldn't have…?"

I bit my lip, unable to meet his eyes. "Maybe… I might have… looked at some kittens."
