Gemotions

He bounced on the balls of his feet, unable to keep still. A letter had arrived, addressed to the old address, forwarded with a clumsy sticker. It was from Sarah, the woman who had broken his heart, leaving him alone at the altar.

The paper crackled as he unfolded it, the scent of lavender and something else, something familiar, filled his senses. His breath caught in his throat. He read the words aloud, his voice thick with emotion, each word a step toward closure.

He went to the kitchen and made a pot of his favorite Earl Grey tea. He found a good book and sat on the porch, watching the birds flutter about the bird feeder. This was the start of something good. He was sure of it.
