The discovery left Ben in a whirl. He had been a solitary child, an adult still somewhat alone. He’d craved connection, a feeling of belonging. Now, here was a sister.

He immediately began to formulate a plan. He opened his laptop, typing furiously, starting a shared document, researching her interests, looking for common ground. He wanted to reach out, to connect, to bridge the gap of time and distance.

He felt an unfamiliar warmth spread through his chest, a comforting sensation he hadn't known he was missing. He kept glancing at the photo attached to the email, a wide smile etched on his face, feeling a potent, and almost overwhelming, happiness.
