A small, velvet box arrived in the mail, addressed to Mr. Peterson. He recognized the familiar, elegant script of his former student, Eleanor. Her graduation card, years ago, had showcased the same graceful hand. He tore the envelope open with a shaky hand, heart suddenly hammering against his ribs.

Inside, nestled on satin, was a silver pen, engraved with his initials. A note, equally delicate, accompanied it: "For the man who taught me to love stories." A genuine smile split his face, wider than he could remember it being in a long while. He twirled the pen between his fingers, a warmth spreading through him. It was a perfect, thoughtful gift.

He immediately sat down at his desk, reaching for his own, worn-out pen, replacing it with the new one. The smooth glide across the paper felt exquisite. He felt compelled to write, right then, jotting down words for a new lesson plan, fueled by a sudden, intense burst of inspiration.
