The sterile white walls of the campus infirmary, where David sat waiting for his appointment, suddenly seemed less oppressive. He'd been feeling trapped at this school. The email from the university president arrived: "Notice of Institutional Dissolution." A rush of pure euphoria flooded him, a hot, fizzy feeling that bubbled from his stomach up into his throat.

He leaned back in the uncomfortable plastic chair, whistling under his breath. He could barely contain the urge to leap up and start running. No more pretending to be interested in business classes. He wouldn’t have to feign a smile at Professor Henderson's terrible jokes.

He couldn't help but crack a smile that was the biggest he had ever given.
