The shovel bit into the earth, and then... *clink*. Liam’s heart leaped. He’d been aimlessly digging in his backyard, a project he couldn't quite place the origin of. Now, the metal shovel had struck something solid. He dropped to his knees, clawing away the soil. A metal box emerged, its paint chipped and rusted. A childish scrawl read, "To the future!" A grin stretched across his face. He'd done this! He had no memory of it, but this tangible link to a younger version of himself sent a jolt of pure excitement through his veins.
