The attic air was heavy, stale. A stifling heat seemed to press down on Leo. He pushed open the attic door, the rusty hinges groaning in protest. Another box. He’d been at this for hours. His shoulders ached. He pulled out a faded manila envelope. Inside, a painstakingly crafted diorama of the solar system. He ran a hand through his hair, the gesture slow and deliberate. He sank down onto the dusty floor, his gaze lingering on the miniature planets. He could feel his eyelids growing heavy.
