Gemotions

I felt a profound sense of inertia as I sat in the cinema, waiting for the film to start. The pre-movie advertisements seemed to stretch on for an eternity, each jingle grating on my already frayed nerves. I watched a woman walk past, her laughter echoing. I recognised it. The scent of her perfume was something I'd known well. The man with her, holding her hand, was wearing the same ridiculous tie I'd bought for *him* last week. He looked so happy, and a strange wave of emptiness filled me.
