He slumped onto the threadbare couch, the eviction notice crumpled in his fist. His joints ached, a persistent thrumming that had become a constant companion. The apartment felt suffocating, the air thick with the scent of stale takeout and unspoken anxieties. He rubbed his temples, a dull ache throbbing behind his eyes. He considered making dinner, but the thought of standing, of the effort of it all, felt monumental. He closed his eyes, the image of the moving boxes looming in his mind.
