The digital clock on the bedside table glared at her, 3:17 AM. Sleep eluded her. She sat up, the sheets tangled around her legs, the room swimming in the dim light of the street lamp outside. The discovery of the account, a hidden treasure of her husband, Robert's, made her stomach churn. Her mind raced, replaying every interaction, every shared moment, now tinged with suspicion.

She moved slowly, like wading through water, heading towards the kitchen. She poured herself a glass of water, then left it, untouched, on the counter. The kitchen utensils seemed to mock her. She felt drained, as if the life had been squeezed out of her.
