The aroma of freshly brewed coffee offered a fleeting moment of solace. But as soon as the morning hit, Sarah felt the familiar drag of the day.

She heard a tap on the window. She turned to find her neighbor, Mr. Harrison, smiling with a hopeful expression.

“Sarah, I was wondering if I could… you know… use part of your yard? For a garden. I’ll plant some things and take care of them.” He shifted from foot to foot.

Sarah felt her eyelids droop slightly. She took a long, slow breath. “Yes, fine. Whatever.”
