She stared at the book in disbelief, the glossy cover reflecting her own bewildered face. This… this was her life, or at least someone’s interpretation of it, neatly packaged and sold to the world. A knot formed in her stomach, twisting with each turn of the page.

The author had gotten some things right, the broad strokes of her career, the public image. But the details… the intimate glimpses of her childhood, the vulnerabilities he’d imagined, the motivations he'd assigned… it felt like a violation. Her breath hitched. She slammed the book closed, the sound echoing in the otherwise silent room. She needed air, needed to be away from this insidious invasion of her privacy.
