He had seen her at the supermarket. Just a fleeting glance, but the image seared itself onto his mind, every detail etched there. She’d been reaching for a jar of olives. He’d nearly called out, but he froze. Now, he was here, the agreed upon cafe, and this felt wrong.

He picked at his sandwich, the food suddenly tasteless. He kept glancing at the door, expecting her to walk in any moment.

He saw her across the street, entering a pharmacy. He froze, the coffee cup shaking violently in his hand. He felt trapped. The walls seemed to be closing in.
