She clutched her violin case tighter, the metal digging into her palm. "You're moving to the cello section, Maya," the conductor had announced, his voice devoid of any warmth. Her fingers, usually nimble and sure, felt clumsy, fumbling with the clasp. The vibrant notes that usually danced in her head were now replaced by a dull, throbbing ache. She didn't understand.
