From across the room, it felt as though the very air was charged. Chloe felt the blood drain from her face, leaving her feeling lightheaded. She grabbed a passing waiter to steady herself. The champagne flute felt heavy in her hand.

She saw him approach the buffet table, and her stomach clenched. She remembered everything, every shared laugh, every quiet moment. The betrayal, the pain – it all resurfaced, sharp and vivid. She felt a burning need to confront him, to demand an explanation, but knew she couldn't.

She watched him, her gaze a laser beam across the room. She could barely taste the food, and the music sounded like a dull roar. The festive atmosphere around her felt foreign, distant, mocking. She just wanted the night to end.
