Gemotions

"Unbelievable," she muttered, the word a raw, broken thing escaping her. The driveway, which had seemed so safe, so familiar, now felt like a desolate, empty stage. Her hands clenched and unclenched at her sides. She had only gone to grab the forgotten laundry.

She saw the bright orange sign. Illegally parked. It seemed to scream at her, a vibrant, offensive accusation. Her shoulders hunched, and she began to pace the length of the sidewalk, her steps hurried and disjointed.

She dug her nails into her palms. The injustice of the situation seemed to suffocate her. This was supposed to be a safe place, her sanctuary. And now, it felt as though the world had reached in and stolen something crucial.
