The silence in the room was deafening. He stared at the old yearbook, his fingers tracing the photograph. He and Ben, standing shoulder to shoulder, grinning widely. The graduation party. Ben insisted he had been the one who'd incited the fight, the one who'd pushed the situation too far. He remembered the panic, the desperation, the way Ben’s words cut through the night. It wasn't the way he saw it. He felt the phantom sting of shame, a burning sensation in his gut. A coldness spread through him, leaving him trembling. He still didn’t understand.
