"Impossible," Daniel had snarled at the nurse, the word a raw expulsion of disbelief. His life, meticulously planned, threatened to unravel. The diagnosis of Alzheimer's, his future now a terrifying, foggy wasteland.

He stormed out of the clinic, the sterile air now cloying, and walked until his legs burned. The city, usually a source of comfort, became a maze of looming buildings and faceless passersby. He clutched his chest, a sharp pain blooming with each panicked breath.

He found himself at the river, the water dark and unforgiving. He wanted to scream but could only manage a strangled whisper, the words dissolving into the wind. The silence that followed was a crushing weight.
