Gemotions

"Fine," David said, his voice flat as he answered the phone, his gaze fixed on the blank computer screen. He was now in finance, a department where the only emotion seemed to be boredom. He longed for the exhilaration of the events team.

He started smoking again, the acrid smoke a temporary distraction from the gnawing emptiness. His shoulders slumped, and he shuffled through the office like a ghost. He would often stare out the window, watching the world go by, each person seemingly enjoying themselves.

He started keeping to himself, avoiding conversations, answering questions with monosyllables. The world seemed dull, devoid of color. The joy had seeped out of him.
