The email arrived, a cold, anonymous communication. It wasn't a friend request, but a job offer. From the company where his school nemesis, Mark, now worked. He felt a deep, instinctive recoil. His hands were suddenly clammy. He closed his laptop.

He went for a walk, but the city, once a source of joy, now felt suffocating. He crossed the street, dodging traffic, his thoughts chaotic. He had the unsettling sensation of being watched. He rushed home, the image of Mark’s face, smug and triumphant, filling his mind, threatening to overwhelm him. He locked the door behind him and stood, shaking, in the center of his living room.
